Ninguno de ellos se podía imaginar cómo iban a cambiar sus vidas a la llegada de la expedición del rey Carlos IV, encabezada por el doctor Balmis, que pretendía llevar la vacuna de la viruela a América. Ellos serían los encargados de transportarla en su propio cuerpo. Aquel imprevisible viaje era su única escapatoria a un futuro incierto, pero no todos serían elegidos. El tiempo ha sepultado la historia de estos niños y de una de las más grandes gestas de la medicina. Recuperar esa memoria es el mejor agradecimiento.
