(publicada también en esta colección), ?El hombre invisible? -cuyo protagonista ha alcanzado, como Drácula o Frankenstein, un lugar en el imaginario del mundo moderno- da forma definitiva a uno de los motivos que habrían de cobrar más relieve, y en cierto sentido hacerse pavorosa realidad, en el siglo XX: el del uso irreflexivo e inescrupuloso del conocimiento científico y las consecuencias nefastas de ponerlo al servicio de causas egoístas o espurias. Admirado por generaciones de lectores, Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) fue uno de los padres de la ciencia-ficción, trascendiendo sus ágiles relatos la mera anécdota, para transformarse en fábulas imprescindibles de nuestro tiempo.
