Amb aquell llibre «terriblement polèmic» ?per dir-ho en les paraules que va usar Josep Pla per donar-ne notícia?, el diputat de la Lliga a les Corts republicanes cosia un enfilall de reflexions disperses per mostrar un ideari personal, culturalista i heterogeni que va definir com a realisme humanista i que des de posicions espiritualistes havia de possibilitar una regeneració moral i patriòtica de la Catalunya governada pel republicanisme d?esquerres.
