La presència de jueus a la Seu d?Urgell a la baixa edat mitjana està ben acreditada, gràcies principalment als documents notarials que s?han conservat i que han deixat testimoni, sobretot, de préstecs i intercanvis. La comunitat jueva era modesta tant per les seva dimensió com per la seva riquesa, però va aconseguir articular una aljama amb identitat pròpia i que, gràcies a la dedicació al crèdit pagès dels seus membres, tenia un pes digne de consideració en una societat rural i menestral pirinenca de la qual la Seu era capital.
