El laberinto junto al mar podría llevar el subtítulo «Apuntes de un viaje por Grecia», tal y como aparece en el manuscrito que Zbigniew Herbert entregó a su editor polaco, o quién sabe si el más aclaratorio «En la patria de los mitos», que fue usado como título para una edición alemana, previa y distinta a la que hoy presentamos en lengua castellana. Integran este libro siete ensayos luminosos, reunidos en 1973 por el poeta, que recogen su fascinación por una Grecia cuna de la civilización europea.
