Es el caso de Lisa Trammel, que a duras penas puede mantener su casa y a su hijo después de que su marido los abandonara. Las cosas no van bien para Lisa, pero aún pueden ir mucho peor. Acaban de encontrar asesinado a un directivo del banco que le había concedido la hipoteca a Lisa y a ella la van a acusar del crimen.
