El Diccionari de la llengua catalana de l'Institut d'Estudis Catalans és l'obra de referència normativa pel que fa al lèxic de la llengua catalana.La segona edició del DIEC manté la continuïtat del projecte definit per a la primera i respon a la voluntat de mantenir el diccionari actualitzat. Per això s'han revisat i ampliat la nomenclatura i les definicions tant del lèxic comú com del lèxic d'especialitat i s'han incorporat algunes novetats significatives tocant als criteris lexicogràfics, com és ara la numeració de les accepcions.
