Si, en el último tercio del siglo XII, Chrétien de Troyes genera la literatura artúrica, que modelará la narrativa caballeresca posterior; Jean Renart, pocos años después, en las primeras décadas del siguiente siglo, transforma la narrativa no artúrica. Con la traducción de la obra de Jean Renart, por tanto, se pretende facilitar a los estudiosos en nuestra lengua la obra de este autor francés imprescindible para conocer los comienzos y la configuración de la literatura europea.
