En plena polémica por la autoría de algunas de las obras catalogadas del pintor, Cees Nooteboom nos invita a repasar las pinturas del genial neerlandés a través de los recuerdos que el escritor ha ido atesorando en los últimos sesenta años. La importancia del pintor en la memoria de Nooteboom es notable, como demuestran los viajes que realizó para conocer y estudiar siete de sus pinturas en Lisboa, Madrid, Gante, Róterdam y Bolduque, la ciudad holandesa donde El Bosco vivió y trabajó. Esta obra literaria está profusamente ilustrada con detalles tomados de las pinturas del Bosco e incluye también siete obras completas.
