D'ençà de la seva aparició el 1906, Els fruits saborosos es va imposar com a model de la poètica noucentista, alhora que van establir el jove Carner com el més destacat d'entre els poetes del seu temps. Aquells idil·lis de regust neoclàssic van acompanyar el poeta al llarg de tota la seva vida: ja el 1928 va publicar-ne la segona versió, abans de donar-ne el títol definitiu a Poesia (1957). Aquest últim és el text que ofereix la present edició d'Esther Centelles, completada amb un apèndix de variants i amb la reproducció del pròleg de 1928.
