La Segona República, a Eivissa i Formentera, va donar lloc a la desaparició del control polític dels partits monàrquics liderats pels propietaris rurals de Dalt Vila, la part alta de la ciutat d'Eivissa. En aquest sentit, el nou règim va catapultar una formació política arrelada a la Marina i dirigida per la família de comerciants-naviliers-banquers de Can Matutes, el Partit Republicà de Centre, que, sense dubtar-ho, marginarà de l?escena política eivissenca els conservadors i absorbirà un sector dels propietaris rurals abans adscrits a Can Tur. Aquest desplaçament en el control del poder farà, a més, que els nous dirigents de Can Matutes, sols o juntament amb el Partit Social Agrari-CEDA, marquin en endavant la pauta política pitiüsa en harmonia amb el potentat Joan March.
