Siguiendo la estela de su abuela Carmen la barbera, que leía novelas y cuentos para los vecinos del pueblo al calor del hogaril, Carmen Gambín, nacida en un pueblo de Murcia en 1930, cuenta en este libro sus recuerdos de infancia y juventud. En 1942 emigró con su hermano Efrén a Cataluña, donde ya vivían sus tíos y acabaría reuniéndose con sus padres. Vivió primero en el barrio de Sant Andreu de Barcelona y después en Montmeló, donde vive actualmente.
