Comprenden veinte libros de los que los trece primeros constituyen una paráfrasis del Antiguo Testamento, con aportaciones del propio Josefo, mientras los últimos siete libros describen hechos históricos próximos al autor, desde la figura de Herodes el Grande, analizada pormenorizadamente, hasta el citado año del 66 d.
