La investigación lleva al inspector jefe Oliver von Bodenstein y a Pia Kirchhoff a indagar sucesos del pasado: hace muchos años, en la pequeña localidad de Altenhain, desaparecieron dos muchachas sin dejar rastro. El joven Tobias Sartorius acabó entre rejas sin pruebas. Ahora ha salido de la cárcel y ha vuelto al pueblo, donde la desaparición de otra chica desatará una auténtica caza de brujas.
