L?única sortida que hi veu és deixar-ho tot i allunyar-se una temporada al més lluny possible per a treure?s els mals pensaments del cap i poder continuar endavant. Aquest refugi el troba en una plataforma petroliera, enmig de l?oceà Atlàntic. Però el lloc que s?havia de convertir en el refugi de la seva depressió, aviat esdevé el pitjor malson d?una nit en què el cel s?il·lumina i un artefacte desconegut cau a la mar. De llavors ençà, aparicions misterioses, desaparicions, morts inexplicables, visions espectrals i canvis de clima radicals se succeeixen a la plataforma, que ha restat aïllada de la civilització en un món postapocalíptic.
