El silencio es la divisa del Marianum, un internado masculino religioso del que la ciudad de Salzburgo está muy orgullosa. Pero el silencio es sustituido por todo tipo de terribles rumores cuando el director espiritual del centro, y candidato a obispo, es acusado por un antiguo alumno de actitudes poco «adecuadas» y aparecen en el colegio veintitrés bolsas de plástico llenas de restos humanos.
