La sabata de vidre de la Ventafocs, la llàntia d'Aladí... hi ha molts objectes màgics al món, i a Applecross, un petit poblet al cor d'Escòcia, hi ha un establiment que es dedica a guardar-los: la botiga Battibaleno. Cada noranta-nou anys, set famílies es disputen la custòdia, i ara és el torn de la família Lily. Però, amb ocasió de la reapertura imminent de la botiga, comencen a passar coses molt estranyes al poble. L'Aiby Lily i el seu amic Finley hauran d'impedir que els seus adversaris es facin amb la botiga. I trobar la forma de crear nous objectes màgics... cosa gens fàcil, perquè des del 1789 que no s'han fet!
