Però el llibre, que s?havia de titular Nosaltres, els catalans i que va haver de superar entrebancs a censura, va ser rebut, finalment, com el primer assaig catalanista que es va poder editar durant el franquisme. Per a molts va ser com una llum de patriotisme raonat en temps de foscor i incertesa. Malgrat les circumstàncies, fou un petit best-seller.
