Les dues primeres, adreçades respectivament a l?emperador August i a Juli Florus, formen el llibre segon de les Epístoles; la tercera, coneguda com a Epístola als Pisons o Art poètica, està adreçada a una poc identificada família dels Pisons i ha estat publicada tradicionalment com un poema deslligat de qualsevol recull. Es tracta d?una reflexió més aviat espontània i poc doctrinal sobre alguns aspectes de la literatura llatina, les seves relacions amb la literatura grega, les exigències de l?activitat poètica i el paper del poeta.
