Se acercó a Birmania, cruzó el Himalaya a pie, atacó la ascensión al Gurla Mandatha hasta alcanzar los 7.200 metros, se adentró por el reino prohibido del Tíbet disfrazado de peregrino indio.
Herbert Tichy afirmó que amaba más la vida cuanto más grande y peligrosa se le hacía. Este libro, escrito a finales de la década de 1930, da fe de ello, de su colosal amor por las gentes y los paisajes que visitó, y de su sutil sentido del humor.
