La societat noviolenta és fruit del diàleg entre Pere Ortega i Pepe Beunza, primer objector al servei militar obligatori per motius ideològics l¿any 1971. Els primers objectors i posteriorment els insubmisos iniciaren a l¿Estat espanyol una estratègia que utilitzava la desobediència civil noviolenta com a instrument de canvi i que obria unes noves perspectives polítiques per enderrocar el franquisme i transformar la societat.
L¿obra permet fer dues lectures: una és la història personal de Pepe Beunza que il·lustra l¿objecció de consciència, una part poc coneguda de la lluita contra la dictadura militar; l¿altra és el concepte polític de la noviolència, insòlit en aquells anys però que s¿ha anat obrint camí i avui és àmpliament assumit per una bona part de la societat, com ha mostrat de forma palpable el moviment juvenil del 15-M.
