Fue acusado de blasfemo, ateo y homosexual. Tuvo un fin tráfico. A partir del personaje histórico de Jorge Fausto se crearon diversas leyendas que pasaron a la imprenta en 1587. Inmediatamente traducidas al inglés, sirvieron de inspiración al joven Marlowe, con lo que empezó la serie literaria de lo que había de constituir uno de los mitos de nuestra era: el sueño renacentista del hombre universal.
