Desde esa atalaya vislumbraron y comprendieron el universo los indígenas del sur de México y de Guatemala a lo largo de dos mil años de brillante historia. Aunque se trata de un documento de la época colonial, su contenido, las ideas, los símbolos, y las creencias que refleja, pertenecen indudablemente a la esplendorosa civilización maya, que alcanzó el apogeo cultural entre los siglos VI y IX de nuestra era.
