El protagonista, que pateix la síndrome de Novotsky, és empès per la seva mare a investigar la misteriosa figura del seu avi matern, mort d'accident en circumstàncies estranyes. Viatja a França seguint la pista d'una adreça que troba al dors d'un sobre i, un cop allà, intentarà completar el trencaclosques vital del seu avi. Obsessiu, fràgil, metòdic i persistent, el protagonista haurà de lluitar contra els seus fantasmes per esdevenir un home lliure.

Helder Farrés (Barcelona, 1974) es dedica a l'escriptura a jornada plena. Ha escrit tres novel·les i un llibre de relats inèdits abans de Novotsky, l'obra amb la qual ha estat guardonat amb el XXX premi Just M. Casero de novel·la breu.
