La fecha más decisiva en la historia de la poesía española, la de mayor trascendencia, es sin duda la de 1526, fecha del encuentro de Juan Boscán con Andrea Navagiero, embajador de Venecia, en las tornabodas granadinas del emperador con Isabel de Portugal (...). Que Garcilaso quisiera también seguir ese camino dio el triunfo definitivo a la nueva escuela, ya que el divino toledano poseía uno de los oídos musicales más extraordinarios y pudo aclimatar prodigiosamente el endecasílbo. (...) Con el endecasílabo se incorpora toda la poesía petrarquista, con sus sutilezas amorosas, su belleza y su gusto por la forma. Sin olvidar que los clásicos, especialmente Horacio, Virgilio y Ovidio, contribuirán a su vez a formar un gusto literario nuevo.
