Y en esta entrega de la serie del inspector Rebus, peculiar personaje creado por el autor, Rebus se ha metido en un lío tan gordo que le han enviado a una especie de reformatorio para polis conflictivos. Allí, entre los demás internos, también denominados «resurrection men», Rebus se suma a una misión para encontrar pruebas de una operación de drogas que habrían dirigido tres compañeros del centro. Pero el grupo también investiga un asesinato que podría haberse debido a un error del propio Rebus.
