Tony rompe sus vínculos con toda su vida anterior y con sus amistades, y pronto parece dominado por ese nuevo personaje siniestro. El sirviente fue llevada al cine en 1963 por Joseph Losey con guión de Harold Pinter, y es en la actualidad una de las películas clave del cine británico.
