Sus trayectorias están separadas por un par de océanos y casi cuatro siglos. Uno venía de la India, el otro de América. Uno viajó en los albores de la Revolución Científica, el otro cuando ésta tocaba a su fin. El Rinoceronte fue inmortalizado por un gran artista del Renacimiento, Durero; el Megaterio fue resucitado por un célebre naturalista de la era napoleónica, Georges Cuvier.
