A més, diversos catalans han tingut i tenen un paper destacat en el conjunt de la maçoneria de l'Estat espanyol. Tanmateix, les especulacions i polèmiques, sovint frívoles o interessades, han acompanyat sempre i també ara l'univers maçònic, actituds que contrasten amb l'esforç de pedagogia que duen a terme les diverses obediències maçòniques per tal que el fet maçònic sigui percebut per la societat com un associacionisme discret -i no pas secret, com els agrada de matisar a germans i germanes-.
