Y la respuesta que satisficiera tal interrogante podría ser la siguiente: que no sólo esta obra concienzuda de Ernst Bickel sigue proporcionando una información todavía hoy vigente en lo fundamental y bien trabada, que puede colmar los afanes neohistoricistas de la actualidad, sino que además puede ser vista como testimonio de su propio tiempo.
