Han estat criats per un vell oncle que va emigrar als afores de París, en la tumultosa banlieue, mentre els seus pares viuen a Algèria. Al 1994, el Grup Islàmic Armat (GIA) massacra una part important del poble dels seus pares. Per als dos fills, el dol per la seva mort es duplicarà encara més en descobrir el passat atroç del seu pare, Hans Schiller, un heroi de la independència d'Algèria que va ser oficial de la SS.
