La novel·la La ciutat de les pistoles narra les vicissituds del moviment anarquista des de la bomba del Liceu fins als fets de maig de 1937, d'una banda, i les vicissituds cintífiques i ciutadanes de l'astrònom Josep Comas i Solà, amb simpaties anarquistes, de l'altra. Els personatges de ficció s'introdueix en aquest marc històric per tal de completar el dibuix de la societat catalana en el primer terç del segle XX, un període agitat i llunyà en què la violència de les pistoles es barreja amb l'alegria del Paral·lel.
