El llibre consta de dos discursos precedits d'una dedicatòria del mateix autor a Pedro de Urrea, arquebisbe de Tarragona. Els discursos mostren la controvèrsia acadèmica que va protagonitzar Joan Ramon Ferrer amb l?estudiant de lleis Antonio Sículo per demostrar que les lleis compilades al Digest no podien ser anteriors a l?any 162 després de Crist, en contra del que afirmava el seu oponent.
